Linux tested: Linux Mint 8 and Ubuntu Linux 9.10. All the hardware works fine (graphic and sound card, webcam, special keys, Wifi, ...) Note: for the wifi configuration, it needs to download the drivers from internet... so it's necessary to have a ethernet connection at hand.

Ubuntu Feisty Fawn live CD will not boot properly. Gets past splash screen and screen goes blank. Does not even work in "safe graphics" mode.

The only componnent I can't make working is the Intel 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) SMBus Controller (for thermal and fan sensors). Except this, all part works perfectly.

Latitude D830 with NVIDIA Quadro NVS140 Works all, but i'm not testing modem and smart-card reader. Suspend to ram works, but need to be Xorg started. All (tested) hardware works out of the box, for intel 3945 need proprietary firmware

Sound is still an issue, it uses the NeoMagic sound device nm256_audio which does not support DMA, and tends to skip on this system. If you need a notebook with sound, skip this model.

- I use Ubuntu Feisty Desktop (= 7.04) - Work great : screen at full resolution, touchpad, RJ45 network port, 2nd VGA video output, USB ports, firewire port, wireless Intel 802.11 a/b/g (bought on eBay, not factory default), combo CD-RW/DVD-R, audio output (bass included into battery) - Hibernate does not work (probably because I use proprietary graphic driver) - I do not use fancy 3D desktop because I do not need it but I think this should not work

Ver 7.10 installed without any issues on a D620 with T7600 processor, Nvidia Quadro NVS110 graphics chip, 2GB of ram, a SATA 80GB HD, and TSST 632 DVD burner. Also the installed Intel Wi-Fi 4965AGN works flawlessly.

First boot after the installation was slow since the default 2.6.18.x kernel detected the SATA DVD Drive as a SATA Hard Drive. As a result, it continued to poll the device for information before it finally gave up. Running yum and updating the packages updates the system to a 2.6.20.x kernel which resolves this problem. Some minor issues with the ATI video card. The default xorg drivers work okay for 2D apps. Using the proprietary ATI drivers to get 3D functionality is a little painful. To get Compiz/Beryl running requires several modifications to the xorg.conf file, and it's not always guaranteed to work. Other than that, system is solid and works great.

Almost everything working nicely. Problems that remain: -Headphone output has slight interference noises (in Windows too, though - it's purely a hardware issue) -Sleep mode doesn't work (but software suspend - hibernate - does, with the proper config, and loss of hardware graphics acceleration) -not-so-great battery life (~2.5 hours) I got the Intel 2200BG wireless and the ATI Radeon Mobility X300 video. The former in particular is highly recommended, and works almost out-of-the box.

Work with Mandrake 10.1 Official :
- The x300 ATI work only in VESA mode. The ATI drivers should work.
- Multimedia keyboard work, but not the multimedia key.
- Sometime at the boot the usb keybord is not recognized

Don't work with UBUNTU 4.10:
- I Have spend a lot of time to try to install it without any succes. Strange, because the liveCD work well

i686, Dell's standard--cheapest--version of this laptop (no PCI card): Runs as it should on Ubuntu, Mepis, Xandros--though none recognize the monitor type, it still works "right out of the box." Fedora Core 4 works fine minus the audio. It recognizes the card but can't use it. There may be an easy fix to get this running, but I'm no programmer, and I don't mind not having sound.

fedora core 2 works well on my machine. first you must bootup -f2 -change video memory from 1 to 8 -then you can install with a 1024 screen. i have dual-boot with linux on a 40g wd slave hd.
